Dutch party line promotes children’s freedoms
A political group calling itself the "Charity, Freedom, Diversity" (NVD) party is hoping to eliminate the Netherlands' existing laws on pedophilia and the age of consent, amongst other things: http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=50439 Though their platform has been condemned as immoral by a majority of politicians, why do they oppose it so vehemently? They don't condone child abuse – but only consentual relationships with children.

This is absolutely disgusting! I can see now why there are so many Dutch people in our churches and starting Christian schools in Canada to get away from such terrible possibilites that could happen to their children.

This is simply the logical consequence of a nation forgetting the basis of its laws. The reason why pedophilia is wrong is primarily because it is unnatural and consequently it has harmful moral effects on both parties, especially the child. The issue of consent is only a side point. We do not tolerate dealing and using certain drugs simply because both participants are adults and they consent to the deal. It is wrong and harmful, and therefore the state must prohibit it. Likewise, serious immorality like pedophilia has to be prohibited. It doesn’t matter if the child consents.
Now that’s not to say that absolutely everything which is immoral or harmful should be illegal. Unless it is serious, and presents a serious threat to the well being of a nation, it is better to allow individual freedom. However, people must realize that laws must be based on the common good – that is, what is good for people. They are not based on some vague idea of consent (i.e. as long as others consent, it’s okay). Such an idea has no foundation, because people can consent to practically anything, and they have in the past.

I’ve been arguing that homosexuality was unnatural, but apparently states can redefine what is natural or not, what is normal or not. And guess what. Now that countries are going out of their ways to be tolerant of every minority, what did we expect? Of course pedophiles are going to finally speak out. Welcome to the 21st century.
